What we do
The LCFEF raises money annually and gifts all of its net funds to the District at the start of each school year. Funds are raised through direct donations and special events like the Spring Gala, which is held each March. The Foundation also hosts a Jog-A-Thon at the elementary schools in November and the junior high in January.
The Foundation is the only fund raising organization that funds salaries for the District. We pay for the teachers on whom our children depend.

Where the money goes
The Foundation distributes its money in a lump sum to the LCUSD. In turn, the District determines how the money is best allocated. Below, you'll see how your donations are put to work in a variety of graphs. Just click each one to see the graph in full size (works best in Safari and Chrome, but also works with Firefox and IE 8).
Why we do it
Many people believe that with La Cañada’s high property values and the amount of taxes paid by our residents, our public schools ought to be flush with money.
In fact, the opposite is true.
Not only do our taxes not fund our schools directly, but our District receives fewer State dollars per student than practically any other District! It’s an unfortunate reality of the process by which public schools are funded in California. To read more about how our public schools are funded, click here.
How we’re different
La Cañada schools have a number of fundraising organizations; allocating donations can be confusing for parents. And as your child gets older and focuses on specific activities, there is a natural focus on supporting those activities. But consider this: the programs that the Foundation funds support ALL students in the District, and it’s vital that everyone help share the burden. And again, the Foundation is the only fund raising organization that funds salaries for the District.
